MorningField Studies
Out before the dew dries — collecting data, taking notes, and reading the landscape like a map of stories.

Education through field studies, recreation, and service.
Where freshmen and sophomores explore the Northeast Kingdom through hands-on projects, real-world learning, and lifelong adventure.
What it is
The Kingdom Course is NCUHS's experiential program for freshmen and sophomores — learning that lives in the field, on the water, and in the community. Core standards aren't abandoned; they're met in ways a classroom can't reach.
Students build a real resume and cover letter, keep a student blog, and finish with a culminating, student-generated project presented at a public exhibition. It's rigorous, demanding, and quietly transformative.
Water sampling on Lake Memphremagog, forest transects, and species surveys — science learned where it actually happens.
Canoeing, hiking, and backcountry skill-building that turn the Northeast Kingdom into a living classroom.
Trail stewardship and community projects with local partners — work that leaves the Kingdom better than we found it.
Student-driven inquiry that culminates in a public exhibition and a finished resume, cover letter, and portfolio.

The rhythm
From first light to last light — how a day actually moves when the Northeast Kingdom is your classroom.
MorningOut before the dew dries — collecting data, taking notes, and reading the landscape like a map of stories.
MiddayOn the water and on the trail. We move our bodies, build trust, and learn the country by walking through it.
AfternoonWorking alongside local organizations — trails maintained, habitats restored, relationships built.
Close of DaySlowing down to take stock. Journaling, group circles, and the quiet that only the Kingdom offers.

Who it's for
The Kingdom Course is built for students who learn best by doing — who come alive in the woods, on the water, and around a shared project. If that's you, this is your invitation.
